Thailand is India’s favourite first international honeymoon — short flights, easy entry for Indian passport holders, gorgeous islands and honeymoon resorts at every budget. But a few smart decisions separate a dream trip from a tourist-trap experience. Here’s what every Indian couple should know.
When to Go
The best months are November to February — dry, sunny and pleasant (25–32°C) across Bangkok, Phuket and Krabi. March–May gets hot, and June–October is monsoon season on the Andaman coast (Phuket/Krabi), though you’ll find excellent hotel deals then. If you’re marrying in the Indian wedding season (Nov–Feb), you’re in luck — that’s exactly Thailand’s best weather.
Picking Your Islands
- Phuket — the classic choice: best flight connectivity, Patong nightlife, luxury resorts on quieter beaches (Kata, Karon, Bang Tao) and easy day trips to Phi Phi and James Bond Island.
- Krabi — quieter and more dramatic: limestone cliffs, Railay Beach and the famous 4-island tour. Pairs beautifully with Phuket (about 3 hours by road/ferry).
- Koh Samui — upscale and serene, ideal if you want a resort-focused honeymoon away from crowds.
- Bangkok + Pattaya — city energy, rooftop dining, shopping and cabaret shows; best as a 2-night add-on rather than the whole trip.
Our take for a 6–7 night honeymoon: 2 nights Bangkok + 4–5 nights Phuket & Krabi, or skip Bangkok entirely and go island-only.
Romantic Experiences Worth Booking
- Private long-tail boat tour of Phang Nga Bay or the Krabi islands
- Couples spa afternoon — Thai massage is world-class and affordable
- Sunset dinner cruise in Bangkok or beachfront candle-light dinner in Phuket
- Snorkelling or first-time diving trip to Phi Phi / Coral Island
Budget Tips
- A quality 6N/7D Thailand trip for two typically starts around ₹45,000–₹55,000 per person depending on hotels and inclusions.
- Street food and local restaurants are excellent and safe — don’t eat every meal at the hotel.
- Use Grab (Thailand’s Uber) instead of negotiating with tuk-tuks for longer rides.
- Carry some Thai Baht in cash — small vendors and boat operators often don’t take cards.
Mistakes to Avoid on Your First International Trip
- Overpacking the itinerary — this is a honeymoon, not a checklist. One activity per day is plenty.
- Booking “cheapest available” tours — crowded speedboats with 40 strangers aren’t romantic. Pay a little more for small-group or private options.
- Ignoring travel insurance — it costs a few hundred rupees and covers medical emergencies, delays and lost baggage.
- Skipping advance bookings in peak season — December–January resorts and popular tours sell out early.
